Our Mission — Unlock mass timber’s potential to reimagine cities & impact climate change.

As adoption of mass timber accelerates and a global ecosystem of players takes shape, an emerging group of leaders are working together to realize the potential of combining these technologies with sustainable forestry, impacting climate change while simultaneously reimagining the social fabric of tomorrow’s cities.

If we are going to realize mass timber’s social & environmental impact in a relevant timeframe, we are going to have to accelerate adoption while optimizing these technologies for carbon & social benefits.

Mass. connects these leaders in global project teams to address key challenges, distills their insights in open source templates and profiles their work in engaging content. Half the time. Twice the impact.

Community.

Your Best Work.

Identifying, connecting and supporting a group of no more than 50 diverse, emerging leaders & innovators, Mass. Community will provide ‘a clean quiet place’ for them to do their very best work together in focused project teams.

Project Team sponsors will provide financial support and leadership development to Mass. Fellows within this community, providing much-needed bandwidth to the pioneers in this field who are already facing burnout in a global race for their limited time.

Strategy.

Signal | Noise.

Distilling this learning — simplifying the roadmap to optimize for carbon and social impacts for enterprise sustainability officers, city planners, civic leaders and CEO’s — we can bring these benefits to scale faster. But only if we make it simple enough for enterprises, organizations and cities that have one person overseeing their sustainability efforts — not a global team of dozens.

The mass timber ecosystem is already working tirelessly on the manual, the math and the materials. Big Tech & Co are learning the lessons with the big breakthrough projects — Mass. will work with them to perfect the ‘Start Here’ kit & platform for the next tier of adopters.

Media.

Fix the Narrative.

Forest harvest and wood-based construction are currently perceived by the public as critical problems, not critical solutions in the fight to address climate change.

There is no story better poised to reframe these perceptions than that of mass timber. We can connect the dots between sustainable forestry, sustainable construction and sustainable cities — but not if we leave that story in a vacuum, or worse yet in the hands of other interests. If we don’t address the question of public trust and consumer confidence, we are going to end up fighting the same battles project by project and city by city.

Profiling sponsors’ projects and the extraordinary passion and dedication of Mass. Fellows, Mass. Media will focus on project-based communications and securing the funds and production team to produce a streaming documentary series that will finally put the extraordinary potential of mass timber squarely into the public’s perception.
